Project Scope

Data Identification and Archiving and Purging of Master and Transaction data for the below SAP applications,

  • SAP ECC 6.0 
  • SAP BW
  • SAP Hybris

Business Situation

Customer was using SAP ECC for more than two decades and they want to implement SAP S/4 HANA and move SAP BW and Hybris to HANA Database. They wanted to remove the unnecessary or unused Master data and transaction data from the current running applications. So, they will be able to save Hardware cost, data maintenance cost and reduce the data migration and backup timelines.

Technical Situation

SAP applications have transaction-intensive, critical high-volume ERP data, collecting and storing huge amounts of data resulting in an exponential increase in the size of the database and it is high-priced when we migrate the whole amount of data to S/4 HANA. 

The customer planned to archive and purge the obsolete data from SAP Systems before moving to SAP S/4 HANA.


Solutions

The solution proposed was dataZense(Data Analysis and identification) and dataZap(Archiving, purging and Storing) that runs on the ChainSys Smart Data Platform. 

  • The Master and transaction data were completely profiled and usage of Master and transaction data details were shared with the business. 
  • The data was selected for the archival based on company policy for the retention period.
  • The selected data was shared with the business for the approval to proceed with Arching and Purging.
  • The data was archived and purged in SAP applications; the archived data was stored in Chainsys Platform for future access.

Business team was able to make clear decisions on archival data selection based on the functional dependency and dedupe reports. dataZap was used to perform the archiving, purging and storing the data in Chainsys Platform.

Customer saved cost associated with the hardware operation and maintenance. Reduced data volume increased the overall process efficiency. Backup and restore time and storage was significantly reduced.
